Not Your Typical Family Portrait

November 11, 2009 / Editorial

What’s fun (and challenging) about family portraits is finding a way to stay true to that family’s personality. Honoring their essence, if you will. The most rewarding thing is seeing that essence come to life in the final images. In this case, the final images are the originals. I didn’t manipulate them in any way. No crops, no levels or curves, nothing. I hope they enjoy these photos as much as my wife and I are enjoying the amazing painting we received as part of the deal. Thanks, Eric!

Friday Night Lights

November 2, 2009 / Editorial, News

It’s fall, and it’s Friday night. To a lot of folks, that can mean only one thing—Football. A friend of mine who works as a field official invited me to shoot a high school game here in Wilmington. As an avid football fan, I excitedly agreed. One of the best calls of the night was to capture the game in black and white, which tends to elevate the drama (we all know how dramatic high school was, right?). It was a nail-biter, and the home team edged out the visitors in the final moments.
